How many prosthetic sheaths should I wear at a time?

The majority of amputees using a prosthetic sheath will wear only one against the skin.  However, when used as a filler sock, another sheath is placed over prosthetic socks to micro adjust prosthetic socket fit.  If applying your prosthesis is difficult on some days due to swelling, a secondary sheath will reduce any opposing friction to slide into your prosthetic socket.  Vacuum system users wearing a second prosthetic sheath over prosthetic socks will reduce the chances of lint and debris from clogging the exhaust valve inside their prosthetic sockets.  If your liner does not have an outer fabric covering, wearing a prosthetic sheath over your liner will protect your liner and make applying your prosthetic limb easier.
