Walking on a flat pavement with a prosthetic foot is one thing. But walking down a grassy hill, across gravel, or over an uneven sidewalk is another challenge entirely. And Ottobock’s Taleo Adapt, the latest addition to its Taleo line, was engineered with that difference in mind.

How the Hydraulic Ankle Works
Unlike a traditional carbon foot, which has no moving ankle joint and relies on the carbon spring to flex under load, the Taleo Adapt retains that spring but introduces a hydraulic ankle joint—Ottobock’s first internally developed hydraulic prosthetic foot.
This hydraulic component enables controlled dorsiflexion and plantarflexion, allowing the ankle to bend towards the shin or the sole in response to ground variations, rather than remaining fixed. Such a design lets you move smoothly when you change speed or direction spontaneously.
Built to Handle Slopes and Uneven Ground
That added mobility is where the Taleo Adapt is meant to stand apart from a typical carbon foot. Its integrated ankle joint allows it to handle various surfaces such as grass, gravel, forest trails, and sand—enhancing stability and safety, according to Ottobock.
Since the foot adapts to uneven terrain instead of resisting it, the Taleo Adapt reduces pressure between the residual limb and socket, increasing comfort throughout the day. Particularly on slopes, Ottobock notes that the hydraulic ankle promotes a more natural gait and greater control while walking downhill.
Rollover, Energy Return, and Everyday Range of Motion
Ottobock describes the rollover from heel strike to toe-off as seamless, supporting smooth transitions during spontaneous changes in speed or direction, and says the foot is built for energy-efficient walking over longer distances and varying paces.
The added ankle range of motion carries over into stationary positions, too. Ottobock notes the joint lets the foot rest more naturally on the floor while sitting, which may improve residual limb comfort.
Waterproof, Corrosion-Resistant, and Built for Daily Wear
The Taleo Adapt is rated waterproof and resistant to corrosion from fresh, salt, and chlorinated water, featuring water runoff contours in the adapter to help drain the prosthesis. (But Ottobock still advises cleaning it after water exposure to ensure proper function.)
The included footshell mimics a natural foot, fits standard shoes, and includes a sandal-toe feature for wearing sandals or barefoot indoors. Footshells are available in beige, light brown, and black.

Ottobock designed the Taleo Adapt for active users who move through various indoor and outdoor settings and value effortless walking wherever their day takes them. It supports mobility grades 2, 3, and 4, accommodating users weighing up to 286 lbs.
Available for both below-knee and above-knee amputations, it ranges in size from 22 to 30 cm, weighs 1.37 lbs without the footshell (1.98 lbs with it), and has a build height of 5.27 inches. It can be integrated into a new prosthesis or attached to an existing modular one, as long as there’s enough structural height.
Regarding sports, Ottobock clarifies that the Taleo Adapt is primarily designed for everyday activities and not as a dedicated sports foot. However, it is also suitable for occasional light sports use.

Carlos Brown, a golf professional from Texas, tried the Taleo Adapt before its official launch. He noted that the ankle's flexibility and range of motion boost his confidence to push his boundaries without hesitation, saying it “feels pretty close” to his sound-side leg.
