When taking body measurements, you need to use the correct type of tape measure. You will want to use a soft cloth or flexible plastic tape measure, similar to what a seamstress uses. Do not use a metal measuring tape, used in construction (your measurements will be inaccurate).

Pay special attention not to pull your measuring tape too tight. Doing so will produce a measurement that is too small. The most difficult measurement is the bottom measurement. Too often, people measure too high along the bottom of their limbs producing a larger "Bottom" measurement. Ideally, measure 2 inches up from the bottom of your limb and use a pen to mark this level on your limb. Once you know exactly where to measure, use a tape measure to carefully measure your bottom circumference.

Launch Donning Sheath Description

Amputee Essentials Launch Donning Sheath is a donning sleeve for AK suction socket prosthetic users designed to take the “process” out of putting on your AK (above-knee) prosthesis. Incorporating a Launch donning sleeve into your daily routine makes the physically straining morning task of putting on your prosthesis much easier and with little mess. Amputee Essentials manufactured this donning sheath using only one seam and nylon that employs a special reinforcing technique to make it more resistant to tearing and ripping.

Apply your above knee prosthetic leg in three simple steps. Step one; place your residual limb into the Launch nylon bag and step two; into your prosthetic socket. Step three; pull the Launch Donning Sheath through the valve hole and that’s all.

Benefits

Incorporating a Launch Donning Sheath into your routine will simplify the process of putting on your prosthesis. If you're still using messing talcum powders and ace wraps, at least consider the benefit of avoiding this messing technique by using a nylon donning sleeve. Launch Donning Sheaths are easy to carry and make it even easier to "pull in" that last remaining skin along the inner brim.

Suggested Use

The Launch Donning Sheath is constructed using low resistance nylon. This low shear resistance that nylon offers helps avoid skin abrasion and any burning sensation along your residual limb. For those above knee amputees that prefer the “oneness” of suction suspension and have experienced a traumatic above knee amputation resulting in scarred or hypersensitive skin may find Launch Donning Sheath a great donning sleeve option.

How-to Use

Launch Donning Sheath application Instructions:

  1. To apply the Launch donning aid, first fully spread out the aid.
  2. Fold the top half of Launch into the other half. Make sure the seam is flush with each other; loop is on the outside.
  3. With both hands, pull Launch over your transfemoral residual limb like a sock and avoid creases.
  4. Position the socket over your residual limb after which the loop of your Launch can be put through the socket’s valve hole.
  5. Finally, slowly pull your Launch out of the prosthetic socket by pulling the loop through the valve hole. If you realize your residual limb is not positioned inside your socket properly, this procedure has to be repeated.
