STEP 1: Top & Bottom

Measure the circumference around the middle of your knee cap and 2 inches up from the bottom of your residual limb.  The bottom circumference is the most difficult to measure because it may feel as if the tape measure is sliding off your limb. Continue to STEP 2: Length

STEP 2: Length

Length is a matter of preference. However, the typical rule is 2-3 inches past the middle of your knee cap. Continue to STEP 3: Find your size

STEP 3: Find your size

Take both your top, bottom, and length measurements and use the chart to determine your size. If you're in-between sizes, we suggest remeasuring again to be on safe side. Most below-knee amputees fit a size regular.

STEP 2: Length

Length is a matter of preference. Some people prefer their prosthetic socks to reflect over the top of the socket, while others prefer the sock to stay within their socket. Continue to STEP 3: Find your size

When taking body measurements, you need to use the correct type of tape measure. You will want to use a soft cloth or flexible plastic  tape measure, similar to what a seamstress uses. Do not use a metal measuring tape, used in construction (your measurements will be inaccurate).  Please don't guess, if you still have your sock packaging you can refer to the packaging size tab.  Pay special attention not to pull your measuring tape too tight.  Doing so will produce a measurement that is too small.

The most difficult measurement is the bottom measurement.  Too often, people measure too high along the bottom of their limbs producing a larger "Bottom" measurement.  Ideally, measure 2 inches up from the bottom of your limb and use a pen to mark this level on your limb. Once you know exactly where to measure, use a tape measure to carefully measure your bottom circumference.

Knit-Rite Proximal Soft Sock Description

Knit-Rite Proximal Soft Sock is a prosthetic sock capable of wicking perspiration away from your skin, snugging up the top portion of your socket.  This sock works well for use as a prosthetic sock with sealing ring type liners like the Alps Smart Seal Liner, and avoids covering the sealing rings.

Color coded top lets users know whether it’s a 5 Ply (Blue), 3 Ply (Green) or Lightweight Ply (Gray) sock. Prosthetic users can adjust and fine tune their prosthetic socket fit when volume loss or gain occurs with any available 1, 3, or 5 ply Proximal Soft Sock.  A common symptom of insufficient sock ply count is low back discomfort. Experimenting with either a lightweight or 3 ply sock helps determine the appropriate amount of ply needed to raise your residual limb out of the socket and level your hips. Wearing a prosthesis with too little sock ply creates an correctable temporary leg length discrepancy.

Knit-Rite has been making prosthetic socks since the early 1920s and they know how to make a sock with longevity. The fine knit sock construction is of the highest quality in the prosthetic industry and can hold up to the most active people. If you wear a prosthetic liner with a Sealing Ring, the Proximal Soft-Sock has an open bottom to fit above any sealing rings.

Benefits

  • Proximal Soft Sock is knitted for those who wear a prosthetic liner with sealing rings
  • Works well to tighten top portion of your socket if it's loose fitting
  • Proximal Soft Sock dries fast and is durable thanks to a polyester blend
  • Each Proximal Soft Sock is color coded at the top depending on the prosthetic sock ply thickness
  • Proximal Soft Sock fibers are resistant to shrinkage
  • Available in Lightweight, 3 Ply and 5 Ply thicknesses
  • Made in the USA
  • Sold each in sealed polybag

Care Instructions

When applying your Knit Rite Proximal Soft Sock pay special attention that you do not cover any sealing rings.  If you're using this sock to control volume along the top of your socket it may work best when used in-between your other sock layers or as the last layer applied.

Wash your Knit-Rite Proximal Soft-Sock every day, right side out. Machine wash with all purpose detergent similar to Medi-Care Wash, non-chlorine bleach only when needed Rinse thoroughly and pull taut, toe to top. No liquid softeners. Last tumble dry, low heat.

Precautions

Wear a clean soft sock prosthetic sock every day for proper residual limb care. Make sure to have a large enough prosthetic sock supply to keep your socks in rotation and prevent packing down of the soft sock’s fibers.
