Alps Prosthetic Ointment Description

ALPS Prosthetic Ointment is a vitamin A and D ointment used by amputees who are experiencing a rash or an abrasion. Alps recommends using their prosthetic ointment at night when you have removed your prosthesis as a moisturizer to treat or prevent dry, rough, and scaly skin. Alps Prosthetic Ointment works by forming an oily layer on the surface of your skin to trap moisture.

Benefits

  • Alps Prosthetic Ointment uses a gentle formula for a sensitive skin
  • Soothes and protects dry, chapped, cracked skin
  • Prosthetic Ointment helps prevent chafing and dry skin resulting from excessive sweating
  • Vitamin A and D alps ointment formula, protects and soothes minor cuts
  • Reduces shear stresses within your prosthetic socket
  • 4 oz tube with flip cap, sold each

Alps Prosthetic Ointment reduces shear and friction between your prosthetic liner and skin. This prosthetic ointment formulated with A & D will help reduce inflamed itchy and flaking skin.

Suggested Use

Alps Prosthetic Ointment is ideal for skin that lives in a chronically moist environment, your prosthetic socket. After walking all day in a prosthetic leg that is soaked from sweat, alps ointment works wonders in relieving dry and chafed skin.

Recommended for use with silicone and urethane prosthetic liner materials. Alps Prosthetic Ointment is not recommended for gel liners (thermoplastic), as this ointment may deteriorate gel over time.

How-to Apply

Many prosthetic users have been know to place small amounts of Alps Prosthetic Ointment under their prosthetic liner, specifically along the top edge to prevent skin pulling. This prosthetic ointment also works along any boney area, for example your knee cap, sitting bone or front bone. The general treatment for chafing is to treat the area by washing with a prosthetic cleanser and cool to luke warm water. Then apply Alps Prosthetic Ointment and cover with a bandaid or Spenco 2nd Skin. Alps ointment helps relieves pain and itch, promotes healing, and keeps the area lubricated so you can continue walking without discomfort.
