ALPS Prosthetic Ointment is a vitamin A and D ointment used by amputees who are experiencing a rash or an abrasion. Alps recommends using their prosthetic ointment at night when you have removed your prosthesis. Many amputees have been known to place small amounts of Alps Ointment under their prosthetic liner, specifically along the top edge to prevent rashes. Alps Prosthetic Ointment reduces shear forces & friction between a silicone liner and your skin. This amputee ointment can be applied at the top edge of your prosthetic liner, fibular head, knee cap, or condyles if necessary; basically any prominent bones on your residual limb.
Recommended for use with silicone and urethane prosthetic liner materials
Not recommended for gel liners (thermoplastic) as Alps Prosthetic Ointment may deteriorate gel over time.
IngredientsVitamins A and D in a base of light mineral oil, white petrolatum, and yellow patrolatum.
Many prosthetic users have been know to place small amounts of Alps Prosthetic Ointment under their prosthetic liner, specifically along the top edge to prevent skin pulling. This prosthetic ointment also works along any boney area, for example your knee cap, sitting bone or front bone. The general treatment for chafing is to treat the area by washing with a prosthetic cleanser and cool to luke warm water. Then apply Alps Prosthetic Ointment and cover with a bandaid or Spenco 2nd Skin. Alps ointment helps relieves pain and itch, promotes healing, and keeps the area lubricated so you can continue walking without discomfort.
For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes. In case of eye contact, flush with water. Do not apply over open wounds or infected areas. Alps Prosthetic Ointment is not safe for use with any amputee products made with Gel. This amputee ointment may deteriorate those amputee supplies with time.
