UAE Embraces 3D Printing: Life-Changing Prosthetic Legs for Emirati Man

Walking, running, and cycling—three things that Fahed Mohamad Ali never imagined he could do again. For more than 15 years, 25-year-old Ali navigated the world in a wheelchair, as he donned wooden prosthetic legs that were more cosmetic than functional. One year after the UAE fitted its first fully 3D printed prosthetic leg, this double-amputee's life changed considerably when he received two 3D-printed transtibial prosthetics that secure just below his knees.

Inspirational Individuals: Robert of Los Angeles

Just like everyone else, he has his good days and bad days–he admits that recovery requires a lot of patience as you adjust to a different body and your prosthetic leg. "It's worth it", he says, because his life did improve. Despite losing his leg and vision to diabetes, he continues to work as a massage therapist at a well-renowned spa in Los Angeles. He lives independently and takes public transportation to and from work daily – a subway and 2 buses to be exact. Read Robert's story.

Amputee US War Veterans Inspire Dwayne Johnson's Character in Skyscraper Movie

Skyscraper, produced by Johnson’s own production company, Seven Bucks Productions, tells the story of a former FBI Hostage Rescue Team leader and US war veteran Will Sawyer, who is presently employed to assess the security of skyscrapers. The movie is set to show everyone that what seems like a physical setback is not enough reason to sit back and watch the bad guys win. Finally, an amputee hero that is just as badass as Hollywood’s usual fare of blockbuster heroes is on his way to the big screen!

Senator Tammy Duckworth Empowers Mothers, Amputees All Around the World

The Democrat Senatory from Illionois is not only making history but also pushing boundaries.  Senator Tammy Duckworth, both a below-knee and above-knee amputee, is the first sitting senator to give birth while in office.  Earlier in the month, the Senate rules were changed to allow newborns on the Senate floor, after Duckworth pushed for the rule change.  A rare and welcome move by deliberative body dominated by men.
